BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Fatma Guesmi received her Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular biology from Faculty of Sciences of Bizerte, Bizerte, Tunisia where she studied the biological activities of medicinal plants in both in vivo and in vitro. During doctoral research program, she has done part of her thesis work in the Department of Experimental Therapeutics, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, USA. She investigated the role of inflammatory pathways for prevention and treatment of cancer using dietary agents and traditional medicine.
Dr. Fatma Guesmi’s work focused on the anticancer properties of natural compounds in vitro, which suppresses the activation of pro-inflammatory transcription factors NF-κB. The gene products regulated by NF-κB have now been linked to cellular transformation, tumor cell survival, proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, metastasis, chemoresistance, and radioresistance. She is also worked on the effect of natural compounds on death receptor pathways.
